So David went to Baal-perazim and defeated the Philistines there.
“The LORD did it!” David exclaimed. “He burst through my enemies like a raging flood!”
So he named that place Baal-perazim (which means “the Lord who bursts through”).
2 Samuel 5:20 (NLT)
Have you ever watched your favorite football team battle
through a tough, closely contested game?
Imagine a defensive struggle where neither team can make any ground.
Then, all of a sudden, late in the final quarter,
your team's offensive line opens up a running lane,
the running back bursts through the opening
and runs all the way to the goal line
for a winning score.
That is a sports example of a breakthrough.
Spiritually, a breakthrough is simply a sudden burst of God's favor.
It is an explosion of His goodness,
when suddenly--seemingly out of nowhere--
God releases His power in such a way that it overwhelms you,
drives out your enemies, and delivers victory!
Maybe you've been praying about a child for years,
then suddenly, they get back on the right course.
That is a breakthrough.
Or perhaps you were trying to gain acceptance to a certain college.
They said they were full, but then suddenly, they call you back
and tell you that they have room for you.
That's another breakthrough.
Or you've struggled in your finances for a long time
then you get a good break or a promotion
and life is no longer a financial struggle.
These are all examples of breakthroughs.
No matter what you've been facing,
no matter how impossible things appear,
know this:
the God of breakthrough wants to visit your house!
Your part is to be faithful and ready--
just like that football team that kept playing
even though they felt they were getting nowhere.
Look for God's favor and goodness.
Remember:
God rewards the people who seek after Him.
So keep expecting and keep believing
because the God of breakthrough is ready
to overwhelm you with His goodness today!
Have a blessed & powerful day!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY:
Heavenly Father, today I am anticipating your goodness.
I am looking for Your favor.
I am trusting that You, the God of breakthrough,
are working mightily on my behalf.
Give me strength to live a life that is pleasing to You
as I wait for Your hand to move in my life.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
