Focus on the Prize

Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs,
but only one person gets the prize? So run to win!
1 Corinthians 9:24 (NLT)

Many of the challenges we face in life are simply distractions
which work to lure us away from God's best.
Every day we have the opportunity to get upset:
some has gossiped about you,
a competitor at work is spreading rumors,
a friend says something that they should not have said.

When this happens, instead of flying off the handle and losing focus,
ask yourself,
"If I engage in this battle and spend my time and energy trying to defend myself,
or attempting to prove that I'm right;
if I win this battle, what is the prize going to be?"
For example, if someone says something ugly about you
and you come back by saying something equally as mean about them,
how is that going to benefit you?
All you've done is lower yourself to their level in the eyes of others.
There is no victory in this.
The battle is not worth your energy.

The reason so many people are not experiencing their God-given destiny
is because they are distracted by fighting battles that don't really matter,
trying to prove themselves to other people,
trying to win over their critics,
playing up to someone,
trying to gain someone else's approval.
Instead, choose to keep your focus and attention on becoming
more like Jesus so you can fulfill the destiny God has prepared for you!

Have a blessed & powerful day!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY:
Heavenly Father, I am starting my work-week by refocusing on You.
I am determined to overlook offenses and choose my battles wisely.
I will run the race You have set before me with purpose
so I can lay hold of the prize You have for me.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
