Stern discipline awaits him who leaves the path; he who hates correction will die. (Proverbs 15:10)
A mocker resents correction; he will not consult the wise. (Proverbs 15:12)
We all need it... but at the time we really don't want it: correction. There is something within us (pride, maybe?) that resents being told what to do or how to do something better.
Throughout Proverbs we are encouraged to be coachable. It is imperative that we listen to others, especially those God has placed in leadership/authority positions in our lives. When we resist correction, it is inevitable that life will get tougher. Verse 10 above alludes to that.
We have two choices when it comes to correction: we can listen and learn... or we can live and learn.
Proverbs 15:33 New English version: The fear of the Lord is a training in wisdom, and the way to honor is humility. Verses 2, 6, 7, 16, 21, 25, 27, 28 and 29 give short, pithy statements contrasting a person of wisdom and a person of wickedness or foolishness. The fear of the Lord sets apart the wise and allows him/her to walk in humility.
ReplyDeleteA person of wisdom knows the fear of the Lord, will be established, will have knowledge and understanding, will enjoy a long life of purpose;a person of wisdom will listen to God and will be a thoughtful, reflective person. A wise person will have a life of wealth.
Yet the wicked/foolish is proud, speaks nonsense, has a dishonest heart, is amused by folly and mischief, and is grasping. God stands aloof from the wicked. A wicked person will have a life of trouble.
